Enjoy Poverty

Enjoy Poverty, by Renzo Martens, is a documentary/mockumentary that everyone should watch. It’s about how the West profits out of poverty in Africa, but puts forth its critique in a very novel way - by duplicating exactly what’s being critiqued (the exploitative ways Westerners interact with Africans) in order to expose it. Martens is just like any other Western media guy profiting out of poverty in Africa. The only difference is that he’s totally aware and self-conscious of the systems of power he’s participating in and reproducing. Very unsettling and controversial, but really thought-provoking and well worth watching!
